‘Doorways to Embodiment’ – an Open Floor Dance Retreat with Geordie Jahner PhD
22-24 May, 2015 at Mana Retreat Centre Coromandel, NZ
In Open Floor Movement Practice we approach, enter and explore the multifaceted dimensions of our embodiment as pathways to creative communion with ourselves, each other and spirit. We recognize our physical bodies, emotional bodies, our minds and souls as potent doorways through which we can enter into an ever-deepening experience of the richness of our embodied human-beingness – both inner and outer. We honor our deep longings for solitude, connection, belonging, for meaning and purpose, as well as our spiritual journeys toward the un-nameable infinite. Through our lively conscious dance practice, we celebrate movement as a form of healing, art, meditation, therapy, exercise, conversation, and prayer.
What is Open Floor?
Open Floor is an embodied movement meditation practice and a fun, transformative dance inquiry into questions such as:
- How can we move and include it all – feelings, other people, thoughts, wild passions, limitations?
- Can we use movement to soften the tight spots in our tender hearts and stretch our capacity for relationship?
- What happens if we turn old repetitive thoughts into choreography for creative dances?
We start small, end quiet. We respond to obstacles & mind the gaps. Ask, how am I now? What’s possible? Find direction. Add fire. Push the limit. Embrace paradox.
There’s an essential movement language we all speak when we take these questions to the dance floor. Open Floor Movement practice synthesizes the universal wisdom that underlies all conscious dance practice. Breath, freedom, awareness, connection to others, self-expression, unbridled creativity, community, meditation – these and more can be found on the Open Floor. Open Floor is where the rubber meets the road – a place for creative focus and loving attention.
