The Yarra Interfaith Network would like to invite you to its Annual General Meeting
Date: Wednesday, 5 November 2014, Time: 5.45 for 6 pm start
Location: Richmond Town Hall – 333 Bridge Road. Richmond, Victoria 3121
Guest speaker: Avraham Schwarz
Avraham (Abe) Schwarz has worked for many years in the Youth and Community Development sectors for both Jewish and mainstream organisations in Australia – and 4 intriguing years of interfaith dialogue in Israel, whilst studying Jewish sources – and raising a young family. Avraham is the proud father of Zachariah, Gabriel and Noah, and spends time promoting Interfaith causes formally as Honorary Secretary of C.O.M.M.O.N. and “acting as Honourary Secretary” for William Cooper’s 86-year-old grandson, Uncle Boydie. “Abe’s Tikun Olam Hour” weekly radio show can be heard Sundays at 9pm on http://www.j-air.com.au – or on 87.8FM in the Melbourne area, where many topics relevant to Yarra Interfaith are explored.
Avraham will speak on William Cooper:
“For the past 15 years, I have immersed myself in reconciliation with Australia’s First Nations – and in the process, lived in Echuca and Shepparton, studying Aboriginal culture and befriending many Elders. One of the most inspiring aspects of this learning has been my discovery of the stories of William Cooper (1860-1941) and his activism for both his own Aboriginal mob – and for other mobs way beyond his immediate reach – like the oppressed Jews of Germany and Austria at the time of the Krystallnacht. Mostly through my friendship with Uncle William’s grandson, 86-year-old Uncle Boydie Turner, I have learnt so much more about the amazing Yorta Yorta mob – and in the spirit of reconciliation, have attempted to spread the word through articles, made a short film on a journey to Jerusalem with the Cooper family. I invite you to journey with me on this unique Interfaith and multicultural adventure!”
