Holi Mahotsav was introduced in Sydney by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Australia, ten years ago. Since the beginning we celebrate Holi Mahotsav at the most prominent location constantly visited by people from every community: Darling Harbour. Darling Harbour is our obvious choice as it is a place where flow of people never stops. We have always made it free for everyone to join the festivities.
The festival has an ancient origin and celebrates the triumph of ‘good’ over ‘bad’. During this time people get rid of their old baggage including unwanted items and of course animosity and start a fresh year ahead. Old foes become friends. In India, during Holi days one can see colors of joy everywhere. Every year, hundreds of artists from India and all over the world perform during the festival in Sydney. Besides performances visitors can enjoy delicious Indian vegetarian food stalls and craft stalls.
